Understanding the service

What catering and domestic staff involves

Catering and domestic staff have a direct effect on care quality. Meals influence nutrition, hydration, weight and enjoyment, particularly where texture-modified diets or allergens are involved, and cleaning standards sit at the centre of infection prevention. These roles are operational, but they are not peripheral to a regulated service.

Who we support

Staffing support for care providers

Temporary cover should fit the service rather than simply fill a rota gap. Care Circle considers the setting, requested role, shift, stated competencies and practical placement information before confirming availability.

Cover is commonly needed when a chef or kitchen assistant is absent at short notice and meals must still be produced, during housekeeping vacancies, through outbreak periods requiring enhanced cleaning, over holidays, or while a service recruits to permanent catering and domestic posts.

  • Residential and nursing homes
  • Supported-living services
  • Hospitals and community services
  • Charities
  • Other adult-care environments

What Care Circle can provide

Roles matched to your requirement

Care Circle coordinates chefs, kitchen assistants, domestic staff and cleaning or housekeeping support for residential and nursing homes, supported living, hospitals and community services, charities and other adult-care environments, for planned, repeat, block and urgent shifts.

Each role below carries different responsibilities and evidence requirements. Care Circle does not present a worker as holding a competency that has not been recorded and, where required, assessed.

  • Chefs — cover for menu production in care settings, considered against food-safety qualifications, texture-modified diets, allergen management and resident numbers
  • Kitchen Assistants — support with preparation, service, washing up and kitchen hygiene, working to the service’s existing food-safety procedures
  • Domestic staff — cleaning cover working to the service’s current schedules, chemical handling arrangements and infection-prevention requirements
  • Cleaning and housekeeping support — including laundry and enhanced cleaning during outbreak periods, where the provider supplies the procedures and induction

How the service is planned

Clear coordination around each booking

Matching considers the kitchen or housekeeping setup, resident numbers, menu and dietary requirements including texture-modified diets and allergens, food-safety qualifications where required, shift times and the site procedures the worker must follow. Providers should share dietary requirements without identifiable resident information.

  • Planned and urgent temporary cover
  • Round-the-clock contact for active staffing requirements, subject to operational capacity
  • Matching based on role, competencies and client requirements
  • Client-specific induction and placement information
  • Booking, timesheet and query support
  • Transparent communication when requirements or availability change
  • Clear escalation and incident-reporting processes
  • The receiving provider directs and supervises temporary workers within its service, care plans, local policies and governance arrangements

The professionals involved

Who delivers the service, and how competence is considered

Catering and domestic workers complete the same identity, right-to-work, reference and DBS processes appropriate to the role, with food-safety, allergen and cleaning training considered where applicable. Care-sector experience is considered where requested but is not claimed for every worker.

Competence is specific

A qualification or registration does not authorise every task. Care Circle matches professionals to the interventions written into the plan, and reassesses when needs, equipment or instructions change.

How a request works

From requirement to supported booking

A structured intake keeps responsibilities visible and gives the coordination team the information needed for appropriate matching.

  1. 01

    Describe the requirement

Share the service, role, shift, location, urgency and competencies without including identifiable service-user information.

  2. 02

    Review and clarify

The coordination team checks the information supplied and confirms any placement-specific requirements.

  3. 03

    Match and confirm

Suitable available workers are considered against role, checks, competencies and the receiving service’s information.

  4. 04

    Support the booking

Communication, timesheets and escalation remain coordinated while the provider directs and supervises the worker.

Compliance and assurance

Checks aligned to the role and placement

The provider supplies current food-safety, allergen management and infection-control procedures, along with induction to the site, before the worker starts. Care Circle expects any concern about hygiene, allergen control or equipment to be raised immediately through the provider's process and its own escalation route.

  • Identity and right-to-work checks
  • Enhanced DBS processes appropriate to the role
  • Training and compliance monitoring
  • Professional-registration monitoring where applicable
  • Employment history, references and role-specific evidence
  • Client requirements and competencies checked before placement
  • Ongoing expiry monitoring and appropriate restrictions where evidence lapses
  • Relevant food-safety, allergen or cleaning requirements are considered where applicable

Tell us what your service needs

Availability and fulfilment are subject to the role, location, shift information, required competencies and suitable worker availability. Temporary staffing is separate from directly managed care: the receiving provider directs and supervises agency workers within its service. Do not include identifiable service-user information in a general staffing request.
